Becoming a member of G&SMCSMembership of the Society is open to all who are interested in musical theatre. There is no entry audition for membership but there are auditions for each show that we stage. Once you are a paid-up member, you are invited to audition for any production that interests you. The annual membership subscription is £20 for adults and £10 for juniors. If you are cast in a show there is a further performance fee of £10. (Musicals are extremely expensive to stage and much time and effort of the Society members goes into fund raising). But there's more to being a member than performing on stage. You will be joining a lively and welcoming group of people who share a common interest - putting on great entertaining musicals. Apart from our rehearsals, we have a programme of social activities - theatre trips, an annual dinner dance, after-show parties, lunches, etc., even our fund raising efforts are social events! And if you are not cast in a show, there are lots of ways to get involved, either back stage or front-of-house. All our productions are staged at the Strode Theatre, Street, usually around the end of March. Announcements are made in the press and on this website, then the production process starts in October on the evening of our AGM. There is an introduction by the Director and Musical Director, followed by a pre-audition workshop(s). Workshops consist of a sing-through of some of the music and the teaching of an audition dance routine. Audition material is distributed to contenders for principal roles and chorus parts who then 'get their act together' ready for Audition Day. Once casting is complete, rehearsals begin in earnest and are usually held in the Strode Theatre Rehearsal Room. See 'Next Show' for further details. |
